1. A person can gain a lot of knowledge about history by watching the film, J. Edgar . I personally learned a lot of things I didn't know before. I didn't even know who J. Edgar Hoover was, but now I know that he had a huge impact on what the Federal Bureau of Investigation, or FBI is today. I came into watching the movie with the idea that Hoover was a good person. Later on in the film I started to doubt myself on whether he was or not. He had many accomplishments in the FBI as the very first director, but he also did questionable and controversial things that seemed hypocritical to me. Hoover was the one who came up with fingerprinting criminals to be able to keep track of them and have their criminal background stored. This is very important because this is how we keep track of criminals today. Many people back then didn't understand this idea. J. J. Edgar Hoover's Menu Drinks: Coffee Coffee is a stereotypical drink that police officers drink in order to have energy for the day. This is also one of J. The eight individuals that are invited to J. Edgar Hoover's dinner party are Theodore Roosevelt, Clyde Tolson, John F. Kennedy, Helen Gandy, Martin Luther King Jr., A. Mitchell Palmer, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Christopher A. Wray. Theodore Roosevelt:  Teddy Roosevelt created the Federal Bureau of Investigation, because America didn't have a national police force. I think it would be a good idea for Roosevelt to be invited to the dinner party because he worked with Hoover. Clyde Tolson:  Clyde Tolson was Associate Director of the FBI and deputy of J. Edgar Hoover. I think it would be interesting to have Tolson at the dinner party because he and Hoover were best friends, and also had another secret relationship no one knew about. Hoover would want him to be there. John F. Kennedy:  John F. Kennedy was president and worked with Hoover. Hoover blackmailed him and his whole family, and had secret files on them. I define progress as getting ahead of where you originally started. Dictionary.com  says that progress is, "a movement toward a goal or to a further stage." George Washington University  says that the Progressive Era was 1890-1920. The Library of Congress  says that, "The progressives, as they called themselves, worked to make American society a better and safer place in which to live. They tried to make big business more responsible through regulations of various kinds. They worked to clean up corrupt city governments, to improve working conditions in factories, and to better living conditions for those who lived in slum areas." Women's Suffrage The struggle of equality between men and women has been a long-term issue. There are many reasons people decided to give women the right to vote. The women's campaign to vote began when, "most states had extended the franchise to all white men, regardless of how much money or property they had" ( History.com ). Women began to think that they might deserve the same rights as men, contrary to past belief.  History.com says that, "Instead of arguing that women deserved the same rights and responsibilities as men because women and men were 'created equal,' the new generation of activists argued that women deserved the vote because they were different  than men." Commentary Magazine I think this political cartoon is trying to show all of the territories that America has conquered. I figured this out because the eagle represents America, and it even has the United States labeled. With my previous knowledge of the territories the United States has taken over, I see that the eagle's wings are spread over all of those labeled territories. AIDS has been mostly associated with homosexuals. History of HIV and AIDS  says, "In June 1982, a group of cases among gay men in Southern California suggested that the cause of the immune deficiency was sexual and the syndrome was initially called gay-related immune deficiency (or GRID). It is eighteen times more likely for a gay man to get AIDS than a straight one. Treatment had become a lot better for people suffering with HIV.
