Civil War Soldier Letters
Sender: John R. Miller Recipient: his father Date: December 27, 1863 In this letter, Miller is writing to his father and tells him that he is enjoying himself, and that he is making the best of his situation. He says that he stands a good chance of being named a noncommissioned officer, and he asks about the rest of his family, specifically his brother. Sender: H.P. Miller (John's brother) Recipient: John R. Miller Date: February 16, 1864 John's brother writes this letter to him telling John that he is well, and that their father is sick. He asks John to send a photograph previously asked for, and talks about how one man who had a report of being dead, came home. Sender: John R. Miller Recipient: H.P. Miller Date: February 21, 1864 John writes to his brother, and gives his regards to his father. He talks a lot about how he is grateful that everyone back home is doing well.
