Monument debate
LeeAnna Keith made a strong point of supplementing old monuments with new ones, and also removing offensive statues. David Person made another strong point of removing old offensive monuments because they are representing what the confederacy stood for as a whole, which was white supremacy and slavery. I understand what Person is saying, and I agree that the overall concept of the confederacy was a bad thing, but I mostly agree with J. Pepper Bryars, who thinks that these monuments should be left up. I agree with this because like Bryars says, we need to celebrate the men who had the courage to fight in the war.
